It manages a diverse and precious collection which currently boasted nearly 250,000 individual items from national history, arts and culture, traditional and artistic crafts, political history, military history, economics and non-European cultures. The museum administers more than 100,000 numismatic items in its collection and other collections documenting the history and ethnic and cultural development of Slovaks outside of Slovakia (foreign Slovaks).
